Mazarin, Louis XIV, Frédéric Boucheron... Who's next ? Discover below the full story of the Grand Mazarin, a historical diamond with an exceptional cut, to be sold at Christie's in Geneva on November 14th. Its exceptional volume (19.07 ct), square cut-off and light pink color, incredibly rare for a diamond of this size, make the Grand Mazarin a jewellery masterpiece. This in only the second time in history that this diamond is auctioned, the first time dating back to May 1887, during the historical auction of the French Crown Jewels. On the occasion of "the auction of the century", which took place in the States room of the Louvre from May 12th to 23rd 1887, Boucheron had won the precious diamond. This event was held by the French government as a sign of rupture with the Monarchy and the Empire, and gathered all the prestigious jewelers from around the world. Among all the diamonds sold, Frédéric Boucheron had acquired the only original Mazarin (from the royal comb here on picture), named after its owner, Cardinal Mazarin. This pink diamond had been legated to Louis XIV on the seventeenth century, joining the great collection that formed the treasure of the French Crown. A few months after, the diamond was mounted on a brooch by the Boucheron ateliers and sold to the Baron von Derwies. After passing generations, the Grand Mazarin is about to be auctioned again. The name of its current owner is unknown. #BoucheronMoments @christiesjewels
