Filipino veterans of World War II are honored on this Congressional Gold Medal, the nation's highest civilian award. During a Capitol Hill ceremony on October 25, it was presented in recognition of their service and gallantry. On one side, you’ll find images of a Filipino scout, a Filipino infantry regiment officer, and a guerrilla soldier in period uniforms, headgear, and weapons.
On the other, the theme is “Duty to Country” with a scroll bearing the years of 1941, 1945, and 1946 to denote three key phases of wartime service, as well as the four major campaigns: Bataan and Corregidor, Luzon, Leyte, and Southern Philippines.
The Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal will join our collections. It’s not the only Congressional Gold Medal to come to the museum in recent years. We’re also honored to have the Nisei Japanese American soldier medal and the Borinqueneer medal presented to Puerto Rico's 65th Infantry Regiment.
Do you have family members who served during World War II?
