How does Hamilton, the quick-witted

Delight our historian?
Welcome both, to the Smithsonian!

Today, our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館 collected a portrait of Eliza Hamilton and the suit Lin-Manuel Miranda wore to portray her husband in "Hamilton: An American Musical." Tony Award-winner Paul Tazewell designed the suit, worn in the musical’s second act.

Eliza Hamilton put herself back in the narrative, and we put her in the museum’s new philanthropy collection with this portrait by Daniel Huntington. Eliza was a pioneering philanthropist who helped found the Orphan Asylum Society of New York City (?the orphanage ?) in 1806, when women in the new nation were starting to create and run their own charities.

It became Graham Windham, an organization the Hamilton cast and crew support through #TheElizaProject, an arts program.

Together, these pieces connect more than 200 years of philanthropy by the Hamiltons and the actors who tell their story.
