Photo @stephen_matera // A Washington State Ferry sailing on the Puget Sound towards the Olympic Peninsula at sunset. The Puget Sound was created by ice sheets during the last ice age, including the Vashon Ice Sheet, and reaches a maximum depth of 930 feet near Point Jefferson (very close to where this ferry is sailing). The ice reached a thickness of 6,000' in this area about 15,000 years ago.
