We were struck by the work of Helemozão and Adenor Gondim. These portraits immediately draw your eye in and invite the viewer to find out more about the women of Bahia. Gondim's "Velha guarda da Irmandade de Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte (Old Guard of the Sisterhood of Our Lady of the Good Death), 1994 shows an Afro-Brazilian Catholic religious sorority located in the Bahian town of Cachoeira.
