I stressed over this piece for a year. #MariameKaba finally encouraged me that it was needed and to get it done. On this night before #TDOR, 5 years ago, I was up all night finishing it, and shared it on #TDOR 2013. 5000+ tumblr notes ltr I realized this longing was bigger than me.

The words are from labor organizer Mother Jones, but I love how, after this piece, they became a call for trans lives. Im sharing this not to boost myself, but b/c I think its valuable to share our creative processes & impact. This is how culture shift happens.

Because when most trans people of color are criminalized, they don't just have to survive the initial attack, they have to survive abuse in prison & then chronic unemployment b/c of a criminal record.
