The teeth on this necklace are from several different animals including jaguar, peccary and ocelot. The teeth come from the animals that the hunters kill for food in the forest. There is no trophy hunting amongst indigenous people in the Amazon and everything killed is generally eaten - including jaguar. Seeds are also prized for adorning necklaces and other jewellery. Last week I spent over an hour collecting small seeds in the leaf litter with a group of Awã people who use them for decoration. Here in this image you can see also plastic beads being added to the more traditional teeth and seeds.
