I'm partnering with @Google to give a #SmallThanks to The New Yasmeen Bakery, a family-owned business in my hometown of Dearborn, MI. When I first moved to the U.S., Yasmeen Bakery was one of the places I found the most comfort. My family and I had just migrated from a country torn by civil war. At 14, I'd just left behind all my friends, cousins, my father, and my school, where I could count on having my favorite Lebanese breakfast and a can of Coke every day.

I found myself in a country I knew nothing about. But the bakery was so welcoming and the food brought back many memories of my childhood. I stopped there daily for my favorite breakfast — and sometimes lunch, just to have the one dish I used to have at my grandma's house.

Places like Yasmeen Bakery made me feel the warmth of home when I needed it most. It taught me that the best food feeds your soul.
