#SpeakingInDance | “We keep calling this number ‘The Show,’” Michelle Dorrance said of this exuberant unison-and-canon-filled section from “Until the Real Thing Comes Along (a letter to ourselves),” part of @dorrancedance’s season at @thejoycetheater. Or, as the dancer Melinda Sullivan described it, “It’s kind of the show within the show.” A collaboration among 4 stellar #tapdancers — @mashdeez, @realmelsully, @josette_wiggan_freund and @jillymeyers — who bring their contrasting styles to the floor, the new dance is set to music by #FatsWaller and is the result of a 2-week working period. (They’re that fast.) While structuring this scene, they imagined an accompanying tagline going something like, “And then, for the best tap unison you’re ever going to see!” Of course that’s a joke (sort of). “We barely get to where we’re trying to go,” Michelle told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk of their precision. “It’s absurd, but it is sort of like, here’s our shtick.
