Amazon River Dolphin, Brazil – Photo by Kevin Schafer – @schaferpho @ナショナルジオグラフィック // Of the nearly ten thousand images I took of Amazon River Dolphins while on assignment for National Geographic, less than a dozen made it into the magazine story. The final choices for inclusion were selected for a variety of reasons, but all needed to advance the story, whether by capturing revealing behavior, or showing how these animals live within their environment. In the end, roughly 9088 pictures had to be left out, including some of my favorites. This was one; I only saw the dolphin do this behavior once, and it was difficult to interpret it as anything other than a relaxed animal resting at the surface. I’m just glad I caught it when I did: I never saw it happen again. Does the picture tell a story? Not really. But I love it anyway. #boto #amazonriverdolphin #chilling #wildbrazil
