2018 resolution: Get more civically engaged in our communities. For Abigail Ann Lane, that might have meant celebrating her favorite political leader by making this incredible quilt. She and her husband, William Bagley Lane, acquired enough Whig and President William Henry Harrison ribbons to sleep in. The most prevalent ribbon in her quilt commemorates Harrison's inauguration as president in March 1841 and his death about a month later, a date printed near the bottom of the ribbon that was not part of the original.
The quilt is made of 432 campaign ribbons stitched together and backed with plain white linen. The quilt is composed of three different ribbon designs. Harrison served in the War of 1812. He was president for about 30 days before dying of pneumonia. John Tyler became president after his death.
However you decide to get involved in your community, state, or country, we hope you do it with your own creative flair. Make Abigail Ann Lane proud!
