1967年生まれ、滋賀県在住。1987年より滋賀県甲賀市にあるアート活動を行う福祉施設『やまなみ工房』に所属する。綿布に細やかなステッチで大胆な刺繍を施す作風で、そのモチーフは名画から雑誌のグラビア、タレントやアニメのキャラクターまで幅広い。気に入った題材をもとに布地に下絵を起こすと、目の揃ったチェーンステッチで輪郭を縁取り、色を塗るかのように刺繍糸で縫いこんでいく。刺繍糸は鮮やかな色合いを好み、濃淡をつけていくことでより立体的に。また、独自の配色にも惹きつけられる。時には、幅1メートル以上にも及ぶ作品を手掛けることもある。この緻密で美しい刺繍と風変わりなモチーフとのコントラストが、作品の魅力をさらに引き立てている。

One of the new artworks by Chiaki Shimizu (who was born in 1967) from Yamanami Koubou, an art facility for people with disabilities, adhering to the concept of “socializing”.
She embroiders various kinds of motifs. The contrast between the peculiar title she gives to her work and their thoroughness and the quality of it is one of her artistic charms. When she finds a motif she likes, she designs the pattern she will embroider, then sews chain stitches orderly along the design, and embroiders in colorful threads as if she was painting it.
