My umbrella blew out backward like in the cartoons and rain pelted the 10 person film. In a panic state everyone retreated to a low area, some crawling low to the ground not to get knocked over by the Patagonian gusts. I took the opportunity to walk the other way and just sit on the far exposed ridge. For a long 10 min I sat with this family of Guanacos as they cared for their young chulengos, sparred and ate grass. ~

This grass steppe was home to one of Chile’s largest sheep ranches and suffered from serious overgrazing. The guanaco populations had all but disappeared. Yet in recent times, after being protected by the efforts of @tompkins_conservation, the numbers are back up to over 2,500!
