Since they were introduced by people releasing pets into the Ocean, these natives of distant Indo Pacific reefs have wrecked havoc on native species and ecosystems. No only do they compete for food and habitat, they are ferocious predators devouring anything smaller than themselves. In an attempt to eradicate them, divers have attempted teaching local predators, like sharks and groupers to eat them....not always with positive results.
