Conservation is an ethic based on sustained use and protection of wild places, where natural resources are regarded as having ecological and intrinsic value. Conservation is the advocacy for the protection of wildlife and the environment, and the scientific ? field of conservation biology focuses on the protection and maintenance of the world’s biodiversity. Being a conservationist means advocating for ecosystem sustainability and science-based policy, and using science to mitigate threats to biodiversity through realistic measures.??

To me, conservation is also appreciating, learning about, and loving wild places and things. It’s about looking ? at songbirds out your window with a pair of binoculars, smiling at the squirrels in your yard as they chase one another, and feeling loss deep in your gut when you hear about natural resource exploitation and suffering. Being a conservationist means recognizing the intricate connections between all living things, and working to find ways to protect them.

My hope ?? in using social media is to spread the word about the importance of conservation and wildlife research, and, in the process, maybe inspire one of you to also be a conservationist. ? I’m thankful that I get to share my love of science and the world of conservation with you all!
