Photo by @FransLanting This Royal Albatross came roaring past me on a remote island between New Zealand and Antarctica. It was doing more than 50 miles an hour during a force 10 storm with wind gusts that knocked me over, but the bird was totally at ease in the air with wings swept back like a high performance aircraft. Royals are close cousins to the legendary Wandering Albatross—they are the largest of all seabirds with a wingspan of up to twelve feet. They are truly awesome to watch.
