It’s my Dad’s birthday today, I spoke to him earlier, he’s in Iceland trekking around in the snow taking amazing photographs. I said to him: “71 today right?” He responded, almost under his breath: “I’ve a funny feeling its 72 actually...” This tickled me pink. He’s brilliant my Dad, he lives with his wife in the wilds of Shetland, living a humble, grateful life and borne out of that he lives a hugely rich, beautiful life. He watches dolphins out his window, tracks Orcas from the coast and sits for hours waiting for some rare bird to twitch in a nest. He bakes his own bread, eats healthy and after a long day out in the field enjoys a tipple when he deserves it - a wee Macallan if you will... “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes” is one of his favourite mantras.
The best thing he taught me as a kid as I flailed through school was “Everyone’s good at something, sometimes you just have to wait a bit, til you find out what it is” That took a huge pressure off me for not knowing in school what my ‘thing’ was yet...
Don’t get me wrong, he’s not perfect - who is!? He can be a grumpy old bugger at times just like all us Pisces, but he’s alright by me! I love you Papadelle, go careful up there in Iceland and have a birthday tipple on me... XOXOX
