We are very sad to share that prehensile-tailed porcupine Clark died yesterday. He had tracheitis that did not improve with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories or nebulization. Yesterday he was rushed to the veterinary hospital after keepers noticed he had increased difficulty breathing. Radiographs showed that the tracheitis had worsened and likely spread to his lungs. Due to his rapidly declining condition and quality of life, our animal care team made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him. He is remembered by his keepers as a favorite at the Small Mammal House and was always willing to participate in training sessions for his favorite treats—pieces of banana and nuts.
