Ananya falls in pain next to her husband and daughter outside of a medical center near Pondicherry, India, waiting to be treated with health issues related to HIV/AIDS.

In the waning hours of International Women’s Day, the image of Ananya continues to hurt me. A symbol of abuse not only placed upon her, given instead by the one she loved, never asking. Her husband had had unprotected sex with another woman, giving his wife HIV. Women’s lives across the world turn to sorrow when men not only abuse women in the evil’s of the sex industry, they abuse those whom they love. I was deeply moved by Ananya’s courage, spending time with me before she fell to her knees in pain while waiting outside the door to the AIDS clinic. I’ve never seen Ananya (who’s real name I promised to protect) since that late afternoon near Pondicherry. Never knowing if she still is alive, or who today cares for her beautiful daughter, another victim in the near unending abuse inflicted upon women. Today, more than ever, #enoughalready. Men, respect others, as equal, or you no longer respect yourself.
