The beautiful Yellow Spotted Bell Frog has not been seen in the wild for years. This species is critically endangered – it was thought to be extinct before a tiny population was discovered in 2009. A few tadpoles were brought to Taronga Zoo in Sydney, and the species then disappeared from the wild again. We joined forces with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, NSW DPI Fisheries and Local Land Services NSW to save this beautiful frog.
Taronga’s frog experts have been doing everything they can to get the Yellow Spotted Bell Frogs at the Zoo to breed. Late last year, they were successful! So far more than 250 healthy young frogs have developed from tadpoles with many more to come. This week 200 of these were released back into the wild. #ForTheWild
