Rupi Kaur is one of my favorite poets. This piece spoke to me as I believe it is tremendously important to recognize our predecessors, and be both aware and grateful for the groundwork they have laid. The women who came before me set the foundation for what has been possible with my climbing career. I hope that with this platform I can contribute to the progressive path of more women and climbers in general. Our sport is growing, evolving, and changing. There are elements of positivity as well as negativity associated. I see this change as holistically positive considering the outlets of support our community and lands receive. Someone close to me highlighted the importance of “putting in the time” to climbing. Concerned with the changing dynamic of our sport, she was weary of what type of climbers this yields. Climbing signifies different meaning to each individual. What I see as important is respecting each chosen path and understanding the importance of also respecting the environments in which we play. Be yourself, be kind to others, and Climb on. ?
