This pristine snowscape is Mt. Iwate, in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It was taken near the seventh post along the Yanagisawa hiking course, which starts at the Umagaeishi trailhead, and shows the small emergency hut located at the eighth post further along the trail. The elements can make the hike somewhat difficult in the winter, but weather conditions improve around the beginning of March and the snow tends to melt quite quickly. But that doesn’t mean it’s a breeze—from the entrance to the summit, the hike can take around six hours depending on how much snow is on the trail! With so much to consider, it’s recommended for first timers to climb with a veteran, or a seasoned guide. However, take heart in the fact that your hard work will be rewarded with scenery unlike any you’ve ever seen.
