Well said, @carlomondavi !!! And this pertains to farming across the board. I truly wish that people would take serious about what they put in their bodies. ・・・
Spring is the time of year you can see who farms well and who doesn’t.
Top Image | farmed without herbicides. The same under vine weed managment that has been done for centuries. Eventually a hand pass or tractor pass will come mow or cultivate the under vine area (hard to get to zone) allowing the growth to compost back into the soils.
Lower Image | farmed with round-up or glyphosate which is the worlds largest used and sprayed herbicide that came about in 1974. In this short period of time (44 years) it has led to the collapse of the monarch butterfly population, linked to colony collapse disorder in bees and far too many serious health related issues. It is also bad for the longevity of the vines and the biodiversity in our region. The cost to farm the right way is not that much more at the moment and if we work at it these costs will only go down. Needless to say it is time we as a farming community in Napa & Sonoma Ban Glyphosate not as a law but rather as goal. For those who use glyphosate it should feel like quitting smoking cigarettes or building homes without asbestos.
