On Saturday one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth, #YosemiteValley was enveloped by fresh rain and alpine snowmelt. While #Yosemite National Park was closed for safety, employees were working to protect the park that the world loves.

As morning passed under a heavy curtain of rainfall, the unyielding #Merced rose steadily, creating islands where valley residents and a flood response team waited, watched and worked. Meadows became lakes, roads became rivers and the power of nature that created this park were tangible and omnipresent.

At midday, the sky cleared, and @yosemitenps felt truly wild. Coyotes chased rodents displaced from their burrows by water to feed their new pups. Ducks and mergansers swam down the streets, and bobcats roamed the empty villages. Clouds haloed the silent granite peaks, and light poured into the valley, as if to say: THIS is Yosemite.
