Happy birthday to @deanpotter who should be turning 46 today. This was our last time together atop El Capitan about two weeks before Dean passed in 2015. We’d just gone down to the Electric Chair w Whisper and @albooogie after spending a few days on a project in the West Gully. A project that still hasn’t been done... One special thing about Dean was his power to materialize - he’d dream up something wild (which I never thought he’d ACTUALLY follow through on) and the next thing I knew we were packing up haul bags w 120 lbs of rigging equipment, or having a 40 foot metal BASE ramp welded, or heading up the Jungfrau in Five Tennies (in winter conditions) with nothing but a broken ski pole we found (in lieu of a piolet, which we’d forgotten) and some cordage to keep Whisp between us - or going to Lodi to have Pete sew up the “Whisper rig.” He had the vision to do the impossible - but he had the follow-through to actually bring it to life. It’s rare you see both qualities in a single individual. Happy birthday @deanpotter - you were/are a rare bird indeed.
