After a long day preparing to leave tomorrow on location to work on a new movie, I’m finally enjoying an ice cold ?. It doesn’t get much better! So of course part of my day has been dedicated to getting my garden ready for my two week absence. Well not just today, this last week has been a big preparation actually, like pulling all the radishes and lettuces (I planted way too many btw, no human can eat that much lettuce?) which has made some welcome air circulation happen for the peas especially, because they’re flowering now and the inevitable powdery mildew is starting to creep in, so I’ve been pulling out all the affected leaves as well. I also planted my cucumbers and kidney beans that I started from seed indoors a few weeks ago and they seem to be taking very well to their new home. I’ll keep my fingers crossed they make the transition ok! I also transplanted my zucchini, 3 different types of Japanese winter squash (we purée it and add it to the kids pancakes, brownies and Mac and cheese. Pretty much anywhere we can get away with hiding veggies we do!) oh and I almost forgot the melons from Kazakhstan my moms friend gave me! They’ve all sprouted beautifully and I transplanted them today as well. You can see in these new pics that I’m leaving much more space between plants. I’ve found that things get too messy and not enough air gets around their bases if too much is planted together. But I feel so bad to throw away the poor sproutlings that didn’t make the cut, so I’m going to eat them!? btw, the pictures of food I posted are all from my garden (except the garlic) and I sautéed the radishes till they got some pretty color in olive oil with a little salt and pepper and I also sautéed all the radish greens, plus a bit of the chard and some broccoli in olive oil as well. Even my eldest who is very picky ate the greens, which I was so happy about, but they really tasted so good. I also re heated them this morning with a couple of eggs over easy on top.? #growingkidsgrowingfood #millasgarden #millaskitchen #ladiary❤️❤️❤️
