Photo @クリス・バーカード: Parque Patagonia, which is 640,000 acres of land, has been a national park in progress since Conservacion Patagonica purchased Estancia Valle Chacabuco, the heart of the future park, in 2004 and the land has finally been preserved this year. It was set to protect vast expanses of grassland, glaciated peaks, and many rare and threatened species. Parque Patagonia was initially livestock ranches with over 30,000 sheep that once grazed in the valley, decimating the local grassland. In an ecological blink of an eye, the park has made drastic improvements. This project they accomplished is one of the largest grassland restoration projects in the world. Thousands of visitors have already visited the fledgling park, and as the ecosystem improves, I couldn’t be more excited to see this land restored to its former glory.
