It is very simple: Because those first time moms were separated from their own mothers when they were 2 hours old and as a consequence don’t know what to do with their own babies because they didn’t have a Mother to teach them the way. They’ve got to have a super deep Maternal instinct in order to be a good first time mom. I’m only talking about circumstances in captivity, this obviously almost never happens in the wild. I said almost because sometimes the mom just abandons the babies, either for health issues, or to assure the mom’s survival under stressful circumstances. We’ve had cases (Which I always mention in one of my posts or FB Live) that the mom takes care of her babies born with us and 2 weeks later, she starts to damage them, like Etrusco and Moonpie’s third brother, whom the mom ate after a month, so we had to separate the remaining ones. Also, Providencia and Milagro. It breaks my Heart completely but I’m not going to risk the whole litter. In the case of Jaguars in captivity, the mom kills her cubs 99 percent of the time. A Jaguar is the wildest and craziest Animal on Planet Earth. We don’t reproduce Lions, Tigers or Leopards, but out of more than 200 adult rescues, some females arrive pregnant, its unavoidable, since they kept them all their lives in small cages mating in order to sell their cubs. Trust me, after the 20th Cub that I had to bottle fed it’s not that fun HAHAHA Also, think of this: Imagine how many times the Super Protective Colombian mom lost her cubs either to the other Lions eating them (There was nowhere to separate them in that small cage) or the second option, which I doubt but its a possibility: They separated them in order to sell the cubs (Again, I doubt it). Why do you think that she’s such a fierce Mother? Always go to the root of the problem to understand the circumstances. As soon as she had her babies, she changed from being super sweet to the Ultimate Warrior Mom, and I Love her for that…
