One of my favorite things about my Dad, our kids call him 2papa, is that he’s an avid reader and constant learner. He recently read something he wanted to pass down to his grandkids so he gave them a challenge. He asked them all to read an article titled “23 Smart Ways To Increase Your Confidence, Productivity, and Income” They were to highlight their top 10 then number them 1-10 in order of importance, and write a one page report on what they learned...due on our family vacation. He even offered a monetary reward for this because he told them he was investing in their future, and the first 5 to turn it in got a bonus! Truthfully, some of our kids jumped right on this, others not so much, but every single one of them did it, and tonight at dinner they presented their reports. It was so fun to see what advice and quotes touched different ones in different ways. When everyone was done, 2papa asked if anyone else had anything else to say and Rowdy stood up. He thanked 2papa for pouring into their lives, said not many grandparents take the time to do something like this?There wasn’t a dry eye in the beach house at this point! This whole thing didn’t take that long, but what we all learned from this experience will truly last a lifetime. Take some time to “invest” in your kids lives; challenge them to never stop learning. Give them the opportunity to stand before the family and tell you what struck them as important. They’ll thank you for it later!
