I feel this empty hole in my heart. There are few people in this world that I will ever love and that will ever love me to the extent that I shared with my Grandma. As we bury her today, I am thinking about what she taught me and who I strive to become. My family is really tightly knit. We are Canadian, though I was born in the US and my dad was Italian (I am duel ?? ?? ). During hard times, we have always come together in this seamless way. Family Love comes before everything else. When my dad died, my family didn’t leave my mom, brother, nor my side. We have always emerged closer and stronger than ever, together. My grandma was our rock. She was the most caring, bold, independent, and beautiful woman in my life. Last month, as I rushed to her hospital bed after she had become ill, she told me to be strong and to stand up for what I believe in. She always told me how much she loved me and my family. We were Pen Pals; I would write her post cards wherever I traveled to and she would mail me stickers and clothes she bought(I was winning on this deal! She also had impeccable fashion taste), and homemade cookies. Whenever I went climbing in Toronto, she would come to the climbing gym. She would insist that we bring posters for the gym to hang up (sorry!) and then she would sit by the poster, watching me climb. I will never replace her space in my life but I hope this void fills soon with what she resembles: love, compassion, strength, independence, and virtue. ?
