The sculpture was made in the artist’s early years in Paris, when limited resources forced him to use humble materials. Yet, in Cárdenas’ ‘driving, sensual’ hands (as Breton described them) wood, plaster or a little iron were transformed into some of the most sensitive works of Post-War Surrealism.
