The World at Night project
The view from the bottom of this narrow canyon at midnight was otherworldly. I switched off the headlight and let my eyes dark adapted for some minutes. An ocean of stars above was bizarrely framed by the silhouette of the walls. Walking a few meters would change this flying crane to an entirely different creature.
This was photographed some years ago in Chahkooh, a slot canyon in Qeshm, the largest island in the Persian Gulf, Iran. Look for Andromeda Galaxy on the center-top and Pleiades star cluster on the left-center.
