Yesterday we went to a military base that was largely part of my childhood. It was a way to be tangibly close to my Dad in some way. I also had wanted to show my son a part of my life when I was his age. He immediately felt connected to it and beyond what I can articulate in words, it was special for all of us. It was like stepping back in time as nothing had changed on base. It looked just as I remembered it and there was something oddly comforting about it. The nostalgia. The smell. And the laughter from the echoes of a little girl and her dad who was so unlike the stereotypes portrayed. He knew how to express his heart and affection and he delighted in seeing me run free like a wildflower. He gifted me with the awareness that each moment is a miracle and he filled my vats with an abundance of them. How rich we are to share life with those we love.
