Just over a year ago my friend Anna was walking along the ocean near Torrey Pines when a boulder tumbled off the cliff and nearly killed her. She woke up in a hospital bed with multiple broken bones including her scapula, clavicle, humerus, femur and spine which also rendered her paralyzed from the waist down. She said that the last thing she remembers was looking out at the ocean and then, in an instant, her life was changed.

Anna was a newly practicing ER doctor when her accident happened. She’s since learned to live independently, she’s returned to work at the hospital, and TODAY she hand-cycled a MARATHON. It’s casual.
