@loewefoundation latest exhibition ‘Peter Hujar and David Wojnarowicz’ will be on view from 4 June to 26 August 2018 at Gran Via 8, Madrid.
Hujar met Wojnarowicz, twenty years his junior, in 1980. Creative encouragement turned into a brief romantic affair that gave way to a deeper bond that outlived Hujar’s death in 1987. Through their art, both artists gave a voice to marginalised groups and championed a free expression of sexual identity that went against the conservative status quo, bringing attention to social injustices that feels uncannily timely today.
