‘The future of a country is its children. The future is students. Stop killing them’. The Nicaraguan government and pro-government militias have been engaged in a targeted campaign of violence and murder against protestors of President Ortega’s policies and failures. @amnesty has reported many and increasing human rights abuses at the hands of the government and pro-government militias. The local Catholic Church which had been serving as a mediator between protesters and the government has left talks stating that they will no longer engage with the government while the Nicaraguan people continue to be subject to violent repression.

I stand with the students and those fighting to protect their rights. I stand with the victims of government repression and murderous pro-government death squads. Action must be taken and attention must be paid. ??✌️ #Nicaragua ?: Alfredo Zuniga, AP
