Artist #IsamuNoguchi made #sculpture that was inspired by the mythologies of various cultures. An avatar is a concept in Hinduism that refers to the physical form that a deity takes when it appears on earth. For this sculpture, #Noguchi referenced one of the ten incarnations of the Hindu deity Vishnu, whose avatars include a fish, tortoise, boar, and human-lion hybrid. The anatomy here is ambiguous, but the sculpture’s size (more than six feet tall) creates a forceful presence and the title implies an underlying spirituality. See this work in #ModernTimes, now on view.
