Welcome to Leh, India. It's the highest place in the world where Amazon offers speedy delivery. Perched 11,562 feet up in the Himalayas, Leh sometimes feels like it’s been left behind by modern technology. But as e-commerce spreads globally, @Amazon is looking to serve customers in more remote areas. It began offering doorstep delivery to this region last fall. Each morning, a plane arrives carrying 15 to 20 bags of Amazon packages. There's no 2-day delivery here, but orders usually arrive in 5 to 7 days. With the post office, the process took much longer. Now, sales in Leh are up twelvefold. Eshay Rangdol — who was photographed here by X — works for Incredible Himalaya, Amazon’s local delivery partner. He and other couriers ride motorcycles and scooters to get to shoppers. He says working with Amazon is better than his last job as a tour guide — but he still has to do a bit of climbing. In addition to delivering packages, he also taught people how to order online. “Before I joined Amazon, my friends called me Eshay," he said. "Now they call me Amazon.” Watch our Instagram Story to see more.
