About the project - “This project started almost eight years ago when I started photographing my culture in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. During that period I already knew about my sexual orientation, however I rejected the idea of ​​becoming a Muxe.
The Muxes of Oaxaca are considered the third gender in Mexico, they have surpassed the idea of defining themseleves as homosexuals. They are rather considered a mixture between both genders and in a constant search for beauty. They adorn the landscapes, they are empowered, they also exert a seductive power and charm. They are accepted and tolerated by society, it is said that for a family it is a blessing to have one at home, since they are hardworking and take care for their parents as they get older.
In my photographic journey, I started documenting their everyday life, doing portraits in their homes. However, with the passage of time the project became very personal and exciting. I started to establish a special relationship with them, become their accomplice, get into their dreams and fantasies. At the same time, I try to find my own identity and belonging as a muxe in that fascinating and sensual space. A world that I am still discovering, continues intriguing me, and from which I do not want to leave.”
