Mark Richards thought he was done being a photojournalist. Then he got cancer. “The project was thrust upon me,” said @mark_richards_time_machine, who decided to chronicle his own treatment. His photos range from self-portraits showing the emotional toll of radiation to a picture of himself being strapped down in a CT scanner. Mark endured 33 sessions, 5 days a week straight through the treatment. While in treatment, he had a split vision of what his therapy might look like to the outside world. “Ordinary,” he said. “But that ain’t the way it felt.” So he picked up his iPhone and started taking pictures. Mark took most of the photos himself. Sometimes, he employed the help of the nurses around him, instructing them to take a picture from different angles. He hopes the series is a one-time thing. “I’m not a planning guy, this was an intuitive, emotional time,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #LensBlog. “If it comes back, I’ll do it again. I hope this is a little phase in my life.” Visit the link in our profile to read more.
