If you have looked to the east these evenings you’ve probably noticed a bright red dot, rising at dusk and visible the entire night until it touches western horizon at dawn. This is Mars at its best! It reaches closest distance to the Earth in late July, the best Mars opposition since 2003. The planet will be eye-catching through August too, enjoy it under a dark sky.
This Friday night July27-28 Mars is at its brightest while hanging next to the full moon when a long total lunar eclipse happens (visible from most of the world, except Central & North America).
