RIP Rick Genest. The Canadian model and actor known as Zombie Boy. Truly saddened by his passing, we take a look back on our 2011 collaboration with Mugler, which subsequently sparked his propulsion to mainstream fame. Nicola Formichetti has said that Genest's involvement impacted the collection itself. The above photo derives from the campaign for the Underground x Mugler collection. Throughout his career, he openly discussed issues with mental health and depression, actively breaking down stigma on the subject. Genest also broke the moulds on beauty, fashion; re-defining and dispelling taboos on tattoo and body modification in the mainstream. A true rebel and outcast, he will be sorely missed. "The zombie concept is also often used as a metaphor for runway consumerism. Rebelling from this notion is the very meaning of Punk. The origins of the zombie creature came about from stories of people being buried alive in times of plagues and such crises; that would come out the otherside 'transformed'. Zombies, to many, represent a pervasive xenophobia. As in my life, I was outcasted, hated or misunderstood." - Rick Genest
