Antarctica | Elephant seals can stay on land for up to several weeks at a time. When these seals arrive on land, males must battle for control over their harem of females, using body size to establish dominance in the hierarchy. These large beasts travel to the very edge of the Antarctic continent to feed and enjoy a diet of squid and fish. Bodyweight varies greatly between the males and the females. Females weigh anywhere between 880 and 1980 lbs, whereas the huge males range from 4900 to 8800 lbs.
