Photo by @taylorglenn // The power of a portrait. Such a simple image yet so much behind it. While traveling in the Guajira region of Colombia with @tomatribaloutreach to investigate sites for an upcoming water project we met with several members of the Wayuu community, including this woman who allowed me the opportunity to make this portrait. I was mesmerized by her piercing gaze as I looked through the viewfinder of my camera. It was as if she was looking right through me. The Wayuu tribe has an estimated 140000 members in Colombia (according to a census in 1997 so it’s probably not very accurate). The primary source of water for this community and others was the Rancheria River but several years ago a government approved dam diverted this river and essentially eliminated a consistent water source. And because of how arid the Guajira region is, people living there are in a very difficult situation. @tomatribaloutreach will return later this year to begin drilling wells with the hope of providing much needed relief for the people living in this harsh environment.
