When thinking about proper preparation for a big day in the mountains it’s easy to remember the essentials: good footwear, snacks, water, rain gear, etc., but hiking with dogs adds another level of complexity! In addition to making sure I have all of the gear they need, I also like to check to see what kind of wildlife we might expect to encounter.
Yodel is usually an off-leash dog, but when we hike in mountain goat habitat I make sure to keep him close – for their safety, and ours. Having dogs in the backcountry brings great fun and also huge responsibility to ensure access for future. Words + image: @outsidefound
