We anxiously waited to hear the echo location clicks as he approached. 40 feet...30 feet...20 feet and no clicks. I finally realized that this massive whale was sound asleep. At what felt like the last possible second, he woke up and dove down to avoid me as I sucked in to make myself as small possible to float above him - all the while trying to maintain the shot.
