Walking through the gates of MCU Park in Coney Island is an assault to the senses. The screams of thrill riders pierce the ears from beyond the outfield. The colors of the roller coasters arrest the eye. The salty scent of the ocean air is overwhelmed only by the salty taste of boxed popcorn. And, oh, there’s also a baseball game. “On a cool summer night, it’s where the uniquely American excess of the #ConeyIsland boardwalk collides with a uniquely American pastime,” writes the photographer @samuelhodgson, who took this photo. The park is home to the @brooklyncyclones, a minor league team with a mascot, Sandy the Seagull, and an entertainment group, known as the Surf Squad.
