Photo by @FransLanting I couldn’t believe my eyes when we found this astonishing blossom on the rain forest floor in Borneo. It is the world’s largest flower, known as rafflesia, and it is up to three feet wide—the size of a tractor tire. Rafflesia is a mysterious parasitic plant that has no stems, leaves, or roots. It lives hidden underground inside a host vine and only becomes visible when it swells up from the leaf litter and opens up as this otherworldly, electric-orange flower. It attracts flies with a pungy scent Here you can see one descending into the heart of the flower; the next images show the heart of the flower where a happy fly gets its reward for pollinating the blossom. Go to @FransLanting to see how a Rafflesia emerges from the earth and check @ChristineEckstrom for more views. @NatgeoCreative @thephotosociety @LeonardodiCapriofdn #Borneo #Rafflesia #Wonder #Amazing #Jungles #Naturephotography
