Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Bengal tiger tour 2020 – The dates have now just been released for my Bengal tiger tour to India’s Bandhavgarh National Park in January 2020 so if you’d like to join me on this trip-of-a-lifetime then you can contact me on [email protected]. Alternatively you can hit the link in my bio and download the PDF from there and there’s also an option to sign up to my mailing list. This image was captured on my first trip to India and was one of my first encounters with these astonishing and beguiling creatures. We were making our way slowly through Chakradara meadow when a movement in the grass caught my eye. As we backed up we could see that, concealed in the grasses at the end of a small stream lay the distinctive outline of an adult male tiger. The moment was spine tingling, the evening light, this magnificent cat sitting, waiting, watching. We waited too. He could have gone anywhere, he had 360⁰ to choose from but he just slowly rose to his feet, then stretched. I’m holding my breath now just writing this, just as I did then. Slowly he began to saunter straight toward us, straight down the barrel of my lens. First I shot in landscape to include some of the habitat, then I had to move to portrait just so that I could get the whole tiger in the frame. Them I started just shooting his head and shoulders, it was all I could fit in but still he came, without malice, without interest, just on the move. At this moment he stopped right next to the vehicle, eye to eye, and just stood there. Our vehicle had no doors, sides, or windscreen but there was no fear, just awe, privilege, joy. I had yearned for this moment my whole life, tigers were everything to me and I never thought that I’d get to see one in the wild yet here I was, almost able to feel its breath. That I was able to experience this moment, I have no words. Please #followme at @andyparkinsonphoto to keep up-to-date @andyparkinsonphoto @thephotosociety
