Althea Gibson was a tennis player and professional golfer. In 1956, she became the first African American to win a Grand Slam title. The following year she won Wimbledon and the U.S. Nationals. She won both titles again in 1958 and won 11 Grand Slam tournaments in total. Despite the racism, sexism, and prejudice that were widespread in sports, she continuously broke barriers, never backed down, and paved the way for future players. #inspirationwednesday
